Profile
Ms. Smith received her undergraduate degree in American Studies in 1975 from the State University of New York at Albany and her MA degree as a Fellow in the Winterthur Program in Early American Culture at the University of Delaware in 1980. After 20 years working as a museum registrar, grantwriter, and director, she returned to academia to work on a Ph.D. in Public Policy at the University of Southern Maine. Her curatorial publications include articles on grave markers, posthumous photography, and advertising ephemera. As a reviewer for the Museum Assessment Program of the American Association of Museums she has conducted 17 on-site reviews at museums around the country and has served as a field and panel reviewer for the Institute of Museum and Library Services since 1985. Her dissertation research builds on a two-year gubernatorial appointment as chair of the Maine Cultural Affairs Council in 2004-2006: a study of evaluation metrics for grant-funded programs in arts and culture.
