Pablo Valenzuela will talk on "Chile in Revolution and Resistance: The Great Speckled Bird and Solidarity with Chile from Allende to Pinochet." His paper explores the changing nature of reporting on Chile done by The Great Speckled Bird, Atlanta's underground newspaper of the 60s and 70s. Pablo shows how the counterculture weekly went from applauding Allende's socialist experiment to supporting the victims of Pinochet's repression. This is part of his PhD dissertation project, which looks at the role of revolutionary Chile in the "global" antiwar movement of the Vietnam era.
