Global Peace Index Discussion: Why do we measure peace? What countries are the most peaceful and which ones are the least peaceful?

February 23, 2018 ( 2:00PM - 3:00PM )

Results of the 2017 Global Peace Index. The Global Peace Index is a measure of the level of peacefulness of 163 countries around the world. The index is developed by the Institute of Economics and Peace (IEP), guided by a panel of experts and using the data collated by the Economist Intelligence Unit. Recently the IEP partnered with Rotary International to disseminate the results of the Global Peace Index among the Rotary clubs, business organizations, and academic institutions. The IEP and the Rotary International established the Global Peace Index ambassadors program and trained the Rotary Peace Fellows about presenting the Global Peace Index.

As a Rotary Peace Fellow and Global Peace Index Ambassador, Cyrel is pleased to share with interested INCM students and faculty the Global Peace Index results. This presentation aims to share knowledge on the drivers of peacefulness and provide concrete tools on how local Rotary clubs can build peace in their districts. It is also meant to be shared to academic institutions and civil society organizations so they are aware of how our world is doing in peacefulness and what we can do in our own capacity as members of the society to build peace.
